UConn Storrs Family Orientation Winter 2026

The Family Orientation program offers family members of new incoming students the opportunity to interact with a variety of UConn faculty and staff, meet other UConn families, and learn how to best support your student. During the winter, the Storrs campus offers one optional Family Orientation, on January 16th. The Family Orientation program will begin with check-in from 7am-9am, with an optional tour at 8am. The program ends around 4:30pm.

The deadline to register for Family Orientation is January 9th, 2026.

The program is designed for adult family members. New UConn students will attend their own separate orientation program. 

Sample Schedule for Family Orientation (session order subject to change):

  • Check-In: Family members will check-in for the event.
  • Optional Campus Tour: Family members can participate in a guided tour of campus with one of our knowledgeable student tour guides
  • Welcome: Welcome from university leadership and Orientation staff introductions
  • Transition to College & Expectations: The Dean of Students office will share tips for how to best support students during this time of transition
  • Health & Wellness: Overview of important documentation, requirements, and resources from Student Health & Wellness
  • Academics at UConn: Advising and One Stop staff will review academic related terminology, processes, services and resources
  • One Card: Overview of the student ID card 
  • Lunch
  • Money Matters: One Stop and the Bursar staff will review financial policies, procedures and resources
  • Campus Safety: University Safety will discuss campus safety and personal awareness
  • Living on Campus: Campus Housing staff will share resources and services
  • Dining on Campus: Dining Services staff will go over dining plans, locations and other relevant information
  • Closing: We'll wrap up the program and answer any final questions
